Robbed Again!

March 31, 2007
I know that the Oscars happened awhile back, but I just saw “Blood Diamond” last week on DVD. And tonight, I saw “Little Miss Sunshine”. Alan Arkin’s role in ‘Sunshine’ was short and it wasn’t too great for me and I feel that it wasn’t worthy of an Oscar. Nevertheless, he still one the best supporting actor for his role in that movie this year. But if you saw ‘Diamond’ you would have to disagree.

After watching ‘Diamond’ last week, I thought to myself that it was probably one of the best films ever made. I really loved it. And Djimon Hounsou’s performance was really spectacular. I always say that the best movies are the ones that takes you there. Right at the scene as it is happening. And that’s exactly how I felt throught ‘Diamond’.

I really believe that Hounsou got robbed. He should’ve won. He deserved it! I’m not saying that Arkin’s performance was really dismal, but Hounsou was just better this year. That’s why I don’t really watch the awards show anymore – especially the Oscars. I don’t think they know what they were doing. And I’m not really sure who’s voting in the academy, but they really need to analyze other performances better. (By-the-way, “Lost In Translation” was a really dumb movie. It wasn’t the first of its kind. So, how the f@#% was it even nominated?) And, where are the Indie movies? Hmmm… probably got lost, you know, in translation…

The same thing happened awhile back when Denzel Washington won “Best Actor” for his performance in “Training Day”. Russel Crowe should’ve won for “A Beautiful Mind”. Now, don’t get me wrong – Washington is a really great actor. (One of the best!) But Crowe was more convincing that year.

I’m really pissed now! The more I think about it, the more my blood boils. I love movies and I watch a lot of them. But this is just too freaking ridiculous. How in the fudge can Arkin win? When, clearly, Hounsou was so much better. And to top it off, I think that DiCaprio’s performance was awesome too. The movie was great overall. Oh… Also, how did “The Departed” win best picture? – it’s just a rewritten movie off of a Chinese one – “Infernal Affairs”. And they even made a mistake during the show saying that it was a Japanese movie. Not so… It was a Chinese movie. I have the DVD! So, here it is… f@#k the Academy, and f@#k the Oscars!!

The Best Easter Song

March 20, 2007

Here’s what I think our church should sing on Easter. This is another beautiful song from Hillsong. We sang this before. And, I think it’s very fitting that we should sing it again for Easter.

The Best Thing…

March 18, 2007

It’s 2:50 in the AM. In a few hours I will have to go to church. I can’t sleep – Jakob and I had a good nap this afternoon. But he’s sound asleep in my room, and so is my wife. It’s not like I want to sleep. These are the times that I love the most. A time to be alone and reflect on one’s self. I’m trying to install Vista on my old laptop and it’s taking awhile because the freaking computer keeps shutting down ‘coz it’s too damn hot!

So I grabbed my iPod hoping to catch up on some podcasts I’ve downloaded that I never got around to listening since I’m too busy. (Long-winded!) But i’m not busy now. And then I remembered that I have Relient K’s new album and I haven’t heard the whole album yet. I love these guys! A christian band who crossed over the “Main Stream”. A friend actually told me about their latest album (thanks Mel!). Most of the songs are really good, catchy, typical Relient K punk tunes. But one song sticks out – “The Best Thing”. The lyrics are below, but in all, it’s really a song for my wife. Yup! They wrote it especially for me so that I can play and sing it to my wife. When I first heard it I thought it was about God. But then the song says, “…to make your life as good as mine…” It’s really about another person.

The bridge goes like this… “I never dreamed it would be like this, you’ve surpassed all that I’ve hoped for…” Buy it and listen to it!

“The Best Thing”

by: Relient K

It’s been a year
Filled with problems
But now you’re here
Almost as if to solve them
And I can’t live in a world without you now

All my life
I’ve been searching for you
How did I survive
In this world before you
Cuz I don’t wanna live another day without you now

This is the best thing
The best thing that could be happening
And I think you would agree
The best thing is that it’s
Happening to you and me

All I’m gonna have
Is all that you can give me
And I’ll give right back
Everything I have in me
Cuz nothing ever felt as right
As this does right now

I’ll go back to before we met
Can I erase the past
Try harder to forget cuz
Nothing will ever be as good as here and now

Cuz when I looked into your eyes
And you dared to stare right back
You should’ve said “Nice to meet you, I’m your other half”

And this is the best thing
The best thing that could be happening
And I think you would agree
The best thing is that it’s happening
This is the best thing (the best thing)
The best thing that could be happening (the best thing)
And I think you would agree (whoooaaa whooaa)
The best thing is that it’s
Happening to you and me

Always knew
I’d find someone
I never dreamt
It’d be like this
You’ve surpassed
All that I’ve hoped for (and ever wished)
And I’m tryin’
So hard
WIth all my heart and mind
To make your life
As good as you’ve made mine

The Gift of Prophecy

March 11, 2007

Jakob and his cousins.During our pregnancy, our son, Jakob, kept saying that the baby in his mommy’s belly will be a boy. He kept insisting that he is going to have a baby brother. And that he will share all his toys with his “baby brother” when he comes. I asked him, “what if the baby is a girl, what would you say then?”… he replies, it’s going to be a boy.

For the past week and a half, Rachel has been sick. She finally made an appointment with the doctor last Friday, where the doctor decided to give her an ultrasound to make sure that the baby is okay. Then,…. the doctor tells her that it’s going to be a boy! She was a little disappointed because she really wanted to have a baby girl. She tells me that evening with the sad look in her face that maybe Jakob and I prayed really hard for a boy since she is having a boy. I told Jakob this. He was happy but he didn’t seem too surprised. Is this a gift? I’m not really sure. Somewhat crazy I know, after all, i’m a looney as well. – He takes after me.

To the right is a picture of him with his cousins. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the next generation!

I asked him today if he wanted a baby brother or a sister next time… he says he wants a baby sister!  I guess we’ll just have to see.
