I’ve been suffering from this “new kind”of disease since I received my Pentax K10D three weeks ago. Apparently people that are new to Digital SLRs are prone to getting them first. I thought it was just a myth that people talk about over the internet. But I started getting symptoms of it as soon as I smelled the packaging of my new DSLR. I couldn’t sleep at night. And for those times that I was able to sleep, I had nightmares. I found myself out of focus at my job. And it just got worse as the days went by. It is not a myth, I tell you. I am a living proof. I, for one, have it. They call it LBA… short for Lens Buying Addiction
I’ve been on the internet a lot – most of the time on Amazon, Adorama, and B&H. I’ve also been spending time at the forums over at dpreview.com. I just can’t help it! I’m addicted to photography now. I carry my K10D around like a weapon. But with only one lens, my shots are limited. So I bought another one… a 50-200 f/4 by Pentax (pictured on the right). But now, I feel that this lens won’t be good enough for me. I take a lot of pictures in low light and the 50-200 is a good tele lens but at f/4 max this is not the best lens for taking pictures at night or indoors.
And so, I am buying another one… a Pentax 50 f/1.4. This lens is perfect for low light situations and for taking portraits. It is equivalent to a 75mm on a 35mm camera. The lens, although it is old and not really well-made, is a really good lens. It also produces very sharp images and the bokeh is unbelievable. I haven’t bought this lens yet and I’m already looking at another one. I can’t help it, I have LBA!
My next lens is going to be either the Pentax fisheye 10-17, or another wide angle prime. I’m not really sure yet. These lens are not cheap. Come to think of it, this new hobby I picked up is a very expensive (yet, satisfying) past time. And I love it. I just need to find out how long this LBA will last.
